18th November - Members enjoyed an audio visual presentation by Helen Pugh-Cook on her travels through Tibet. A series of colourful images introduced the people of the area and their lifestyle which is heavily influenced by their Buddhist religion. The spectacular landscape was also captured by Helen’s skilful photography. 4th November - Les Mclean gave a potted history of his photographic career through the presentation of a wonderful set of prints. The emphasis was on monochrome prints both film based and digital. Les’s renown as a producer of fine prints shone through in the varied content displayed and his humorous delivery kept the packed room entertained as well as educated. 21st October - Chairman Ian Oliver helped to demystify the various organisations offering photographic distinctions and running exhibitions or salons. Members then enjoyed viewing the images from the Rushden Salon, one of those run under the auspices of the BPE. Useful links
75th anniversaryGalashiels Camera Club this year celebrates its 75th anniversary with an exhibition in Old Gala House. The exhibition is open to the public from 19th September until 31st October and admission is free. Opening times are 2nd - 31st October The exhibition showcases work by members old and new including well known local professionals Kenny Martin and Sheila Scott both of whom nurtured their interest in photography at the club. The exhibition runs along with the Royal Photographic Society Scottish Members’ Print Exhibition 2009. 14th October - The first club competition of the season with an open theme was judged by Mike Reynolds from Galashiels. Mike gave a critique for every image and offered some very helpful and witty advice. All members will now carry yellow oilskins as an essential piece of kit in their camera bags. The results were:- Enprints – 1st Heather Dewar Colour Prints – 1st Gordon Swalwell, 2nd Ron Bell, 3rd Bill Kennedy, commended – John Frater Monochrome Prints – 1st John Frater, 2nd Christine Swalwell, 3rd Ian Oliver, commended – Ian Oliver Projected Images – 1st Dorothy Ainslie, 2nd Margaret Stewart, 3rd Jane Bell, commended – Ian Oliver This week Ian will be explaining the nature of the various photographic organisations that offer competitions, qualifications etc to aspiring photographers. There will also be a showing of images from one of the national exhibitions. |
